March 10 The Lithuanian senior archery championship was held in Alytus. Athletes over 50 are eligible to participate in these competitions, and this time almost 30 archers from 7 different Lithuanian clubs started in the championship.
In the competitions organized by the archery club “Žaliasis lankas”, the hosts – archers from Alytus, who managed to win 3 medals – performed well. Gintara Markevičienei, who started in the group of simple hoops, was the best this time. Although she took second place in the qualifying competition, after defeating the representatives of Marijampolė in the semi-finals and the final, Gintarė won the gold medal and became the champion of Lithuania! Two more medals were won by Alytis in the men’s groups of simple and pulley bows. Algimantas Vileikis and Gintaras Sakalauskas won silver medals here.
Next weekend, the main competition of the winter season will be held in Utena – the Lithuanian indoor archery championship. Nearly 20 archers from Alytus are planning to participate in it, determined to show their best results and fight for championship titles.
