In the Liberec region, the SLK will probably dominate the ODS and Pirates

“In order to reach an agreement, some negotiations are still needed, some homework that we have to complete by tomorrow (Tuesday),” said SLK leader and current governor Martin Půta.

The mayors of the Liberec region won by a significant margin and won 22 seats out of 45 in the regional council. YES, which has ten seats and Pirates and ODS five each, finished second. The SPD also got into the council, it has three seats. For most of the Mayors, it would be enough to unite with one of the other successful parties, but such a coalition would be fragile, according to Půta. In conjunction with the ODS and the Pirates, they will have a comfortable majority of 32 seats.

Preliminary talk is about a format in which mayors would have five seats in the nine-member regional council and two each, the ODS and the Pirates. “Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will inform about the format and other details of the agreement,” Půta said.

ODS leader Dan Ramzer confirmed that there was a consensus during Monday night’s meeting. “We will probably rule together,” Ramzer said. The Pirates are also in favor of the agreement, who considered a double coalition with the victorious mayors to be the ideal option for themselves and had reservations about the connection with the ODS. “There has been a change,” said Zbyněk Miklík, the regional leader of the Pirates. He, too, did not want to give details yet. “The meeting went well and I would not say the details until tomorrow (Tuesday) at a press conference at 9:00,” he added.

Even four years ago, the mayors won the regional elections in the Liberec Region, when almost a third of the voters voted for them and won 18 seats out of 45 in the council. They were followed by the CSSD, ODS, Change for the Liberec Region and the SPD and SPO Coalitions. The region was ruled by a coalition of mayors with ANO, CSSD and ODS, with a total of 35 seats.
