In the Kaliningrad region, patients with COVID-19 are taught special breathing exercises to improve the elasticity of the lung tissue. This was reported by the press service of the regional government.
Since October, more than 300 patients of the infectious hospital of the Regional Center for Specialized Types of Medical Care have undergone respiratory training. Gymnastics is taught to people with prolonged coughing and residual lung changes that affect CT results.
The set of exercises depends on the patient’s capabilities and health condition. Patients with low levels of blood oxygen saturation are engaged only in breathing exercises in the ward. In satisfactory condition, an extended complex is offered in the corridor or hall. Even the first classes can significantly increase the saturation, that is, the saturation of the blood with oxygen, says the head physician of the center on Barnaulskaya Street, Tatyana Zadorkina.
Rehabilitation of patients improves not only objective indicators, it has another very important effect – it significantly improves the emotional and psychological state of patients. The experience of our COVID center speaks in favor of this approach. Even for patients on oxygen support, we began to carry out such rehabilitation in wards. At first, breathing exercises were carried out, which was then supplemented by physiotherapy exercises feasible for the patients, “Zadorkina said.
