In the Jizera Mountains, they cut down a tree for the Old Town Square in Prague

The Kozderk couple offered the tree in Prague. It is one of a pair of spruces standing on their land. “The problem is that it has roots under the road and others in the meadow and on the old wreck, and it’s already big and the neighbors in the cottages are afraid they won’t fall there, so we thought we both had to cut them down. My wife found out that the event is Tree for Prague, so we sent it there. Because before it is cut and burned, it will make you happy, ”said owner Miloš Kozderka, who remembers both trees as small trees.

The second of the trees is not so nice, so a less romantic fate awaits it – it will be cut into fuel.

“We chose from 35 trees, this one won due to its shape and rich branching, but I was reluctant for a long time before we gave our thumbs up to undergo such a demanding operation in terms of logistics. From the beginning, he was the main favorite, the other trees were near Česká Lípa and Šumava, but this one simply won despite his difficult position, ”Tomáš Jílek, Chairman of the Board of Technology of the Capital City of Prague, told reporters.

The organizers planned their own tree felling for several days.

The felling and preparation of the tree was undertaken by the champion of the Czech Republic in tree felling Jiří Vorlíček. The tree was secured by a crane all the time, because it was first necessary to remove the lower part of the branches and prepare them according to the template so that it could be placed in the opening on the Old Town Square without further modification.

Even after Christmas, it will benefit from it

The lumberjack also marked the side that will be visible from the astronomical clock on the spruce before placing the tree on the tractor. “When they build it from Monday to Tuesday, they will have it simplified, because under artificial lighting it doesn’t always fit well,” Vorlíček added.

The tree now awaits the more than 80-kilometer journey to the Old Town Square. “Prague does not want to cut down trees unnecessarily, that we would go to the forest and look for the most beautiful one, so a selection is made of trees that would have to be cut down anyway,” said Jan Chabr (TOP 09), Prague’s councilor for property.

After jumping, the lumberjack master immediately modified the tree so that it could be placed immediately on the Old Town Square.

According to him, the fate of the tree will not end with Christmas. “It will be decorated for the Three Kings, followed by the trimming of the branches that will go to the Prague Zoo. The tribe will go to a secondary vocational school, where students will use it to make furniture for people in seniors’ homes in Prague and in homes for children and young people, ”the councilor added.
