It’s no secret that Reiner Calmund understands fun. Now the former football manager showed up on Instagram with a strange wig.
It’s finally here again! Hairdressers in Germany have been allowed to reopen since last Monday. The former manager of the football club Bayer 04 Leverkusen Reiner Calmund took this as an opportunity to take a special snapshot. On his profiles on Facebook and Instagram the 72-year-old posted a photo of himself with a red-brown wig on his head. The native of Brühl wrote: “So, folks, the hairdressers are up again. What should I do, leave hair off or leave it long?”
His fans were promptly enthusiastic: within a few hours, the post received around 3,000 likes on both profiles as well as a large number of comments: “Let it be, Calli! Nothing else to change!”, Recommended the pop singer Purple Schulz on Facebook. Another user recommended: “Calli, you are the best. Golden. Hair off! Bald! Looks best! I thought you had a wig on”.
On the other hand, the new look seems to remind many other users of a different German personality: “Do it away !!!!”, commented one user, followed by the fear: “You won’t have a diamond growing on your hands !!!” And other users also saw a clear resemblance to Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Calmund does not seem to have been aware of the scope of his posts, as he explained in a conversation with the Cologne tabloid newspaper “Express”: “My wife put a wig on me and took the photo.” He then published the pictures on his Facebook and Instagram accounts before he himself went to the hairdresser he trusted. The photo can be seen here on Instagram.
“Despite my bald head, I’m glad that my first hairdresser appointment is finally allowed again today,” he continued. “I don’t have the slightest concern about safety, everything is meticulously clean at my hairdresser in Saarland”. He only became aware of his visual similarity to Merkel afterwards: “I was surprised, but it’s true,” said Calmund.
