The XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival dance performance “Eternal Engine”, the concept authors and directors of which are Madara Gruntmane-Dujana and Kaspars Bērziņš, will create 33 dances, including six selected by the Latvian National Cultural Center. in the survey. The grand performance will reveal the traditions and vision of life that characterize Riga, Kurzeme, Zemgale, Selija, Latgale and Vidzeme. –

Madara Gruntmane-Dujana revealed: “The eternal engine is the driving force, the engine, the energy that allows us to move forward, always be ready for growth, do not stop, go for new achievements and develop.

In the big show, we want to show that the diversity that is with us in small Latvia creates the eternal engine that has always continued to build and develop our country.

Artistic directors Jānis Ērglis and Jānis Purviņš presented the content part of the major performance – the dance repertoire – to the leaders of dance groups. Six parts are planned, in which the dancers will dance dances characterizing Riga, Kurzeme, Zemgale, Selija, Latgale and Vidzeme, thus revealing the traditions of each region and emphasizing the unique vision of life.

“When choosing the repertoire, we judged it to be thorough – 13 dances are award-winning creative dances and seven are Gold Fund dances.

So out of a total list of 33 dances, 20 are the ones that form the basis. We thought that it is interesting for dancers and team leaders that the dances chosen for each quality group are suitable and it is a pleasure to dance them, ”said Jānis Ērglis. Six dances are included in the co-repertoire, taking into account the results of the survey announced in May and June.

The artistic director of the major performance Jānis Purviņš emphasized at the seminar for the leaders of dance groups:

“It is a great pleasure to meet everyone in life, in person. Dance is essentially a living energy, it is first a meeting of two people, then a collective meeting. [..]

I believe and hope that in 2023 we will all meet together at the Daugava Stadium. ”

After the presentation seminars, the leaders of the dance groups will pass on the information about the repertoire and the concept of the dance grand performance “Eternal Engine” to the dancers. Repertoire acquisition seminars are planned already in the autumn.
