The 12/13 newspaper takes you to discover a magnificent garden in Villeneuve-Lès-Avignon, in the Gard.

It is a haven of peace hidden from view in the Abbey of Saint-André (Gard), two hectares of vegetation planted on a rock, like an invitation to take the time to smell and listen. Danièle is a regular here, she who no longer has a garden since moving to the region. She finds there a source of wonder. “When I’m there, I see Avignon, it’s superb. This garden is an enchantment. Plants, we let them grow, there are new things all the time“, marvels Danièle Granier.

On the lower part of the site, we find the Italian gardens, imagined by an Alsatian poet in the 1920s. Wisteria and cypresses surround a romantic fan-shaped flowerbed. For a century, 400 rose bushes have occupied this space. The master of gardens defends ecological management of the premises. “The meaning of the process is not to make choices that put us in a permanent fight against everything, against the elements, against the lack of water.“, sums up Olivier Ricomini.
