The Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, spoke today at the “Pontignano Conference”, organized by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Italy and the British Council.
The meeting was dedicated to the theme “Creating opportunities” with the aim of identifying new strategic sectors of cooperation between the United Kingdom and Italy.
In his speech, Minister Tajani highlighted the joint commitment of Italy and the United Kingdom to strengthen peace and security to promote global stability and growth. “The recent G7 ministerial meeting in Fiuggi-Anagni highlighted the importance of dialogue with our global partners to address international challenges together. With the United Kingdom we share the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and ensuring the stability of the Middle East,” Tajani indicated. “We will continue to collaborate intensely in the G7 and in NATO, we will discuss the issue of controlling irregular migration. We will soon hold a new meeting of the “2+2 Foreign Defense” format, with my colleague Crosetto and the two British ministers”.
On economic issues, the Minister highlighted the strong industrial relations between our country and the United Kingdom, even in strategic sectors such as defence. “We attach great importance to attracting new investments to Italy. At the beginning of 2025, the second edition of the CEO’s forum will be held in London to identify new partnership opportunities between our companies in innovative sectors such as digital and artificial intelligence, renewables and telecommunications” explained the head of the Farnesina . Tajani thus hoped that university and scientific cooperation could be intensified, also facilitating student mobility between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the conference, Vice President Tajani had an exchange on bilateral relations, the future of relations with the EU and on the main international political dossiers with the British Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and with the Minister for the Constitution and Relations with the European Union, Nick Thomas-Symonds.
