The Oldenburg district fire department will be relying on another communication channel in the future. According to a spokesman, the population should be informed quickly and directly via “Whatsapp” in the event of acute danger situations such as major fires, floods, heavy rain or other dangers. Nevertheless, warnings continue to be sent via traditional media such as newspapers and radio stations. Those responsible hope to reach people as quickly and comprehensively as possible in the event of danger. The spokesman for the district fire department also emphasized that the channel was not used for general information or event notices, but only to warn. The police in Heidekreis and in the county of Bentheim have already tested such a channel in a pilot project.
