It has already been reported that in regions with an unfavorable epidemiological situation, increased restrictions will be imposed from Monday to three weeks.
Reinforced restrictions are expected to apply in 15 of Finland’s 19 regions.
“The restrictions are aimed at minimizing people-to-people contacts in order to reduce the number of people infected and bring the epidemic under control,” Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marina told parliament.
In restaurants and cafes, the possibility to buy ready-to-eat food will be maintained.
However, Annika Ronni-Sallinen, the leader of the trade union PAM, warned that these restrictions could lead to redundancies.
People are encouraged to avoid gatherings, wear face masks and observe social distancing.
A week ago, the government and the president declared a state of emergency in Finland, giving the government more power to fight the pandemic.
The Ministry of Justice announced over the weekend that the municipal elections scheduled for April had been postponed until June due to the pandemic.
Approximately 1295 cases of the new most contagious coronavirus have been reported in Finland.
In the country as a whole, more than 62,000 people have been diagnosed with choronavirus infections since the beginning of the pandemic, of which more than 770 have died.
