“Once we have a safe and effective vaccine, it must be free for everyone – whether you are insured or not,” Biden said in his speech 11 days before the election, setting out his response to the pandemic.

US President Donald Trump, who is a candidate for the election from the Republican Party but lags behind Biden in polls, has also stressed that the vaccine should be free. He also said the vaccine would be ready in the coming weeks.

Democrats have criticized Trump for failing to implement a nationwide response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has now claimed the lives of more than 223,000 Americans.
