According to Chart Data, Linkin Park’s song In The End has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, making it the first Nu Metal song to break this milestone.
Last year, Linkin Park’s music video for In The End surpassed one billion views on YouTube. It was the second Linkin Park title to cross this milestone; indeed, in november 2018, Numb had achieved the same feat.
The official music video for In The End was not uploaded to YouTube until October 2009, nearly ten years after its release.
Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park spoke about the creation of In The End in an interview with Linkin Park Web.
He stated :
I arrived with the piano, the music for the chorus and the lyrics for the chorus. Then Brad [Delson, guitare] proposed the guitar in the verse and we worked on the bass and the overall composition. From there I think everyone in the group started contributing, adding their parts and criticizing those of others. Right before we went into the studio to record it, we scrapped the beat I had originally written for the verse and asked Rob [Bourdon, batterie] make a new one, which is the one we recorded.
Surprisingly, Chester Bennington, the late frontman of Linkin Park, didn’t like In The End when it was recorded.
In 2012 during an interview with VMusic, Chester Bennington said:
I was never a fan of In The End and honestly I didn’t even want her on the album. How could I have been so wrong? I decided at that point that I didn’t know what I was talking about and that I would leave it to other people who have the talent to choose the songs that people will like the most. It also gave me a good lesson as an artist: I shouldn’t just make music that I want to listen to, with my band. Most of the time, what I like, very few people like, and what these people like is something that I like moderately or not at all. It’s cool, it gives me a new appreciation for the songs. But now I love In The End and think it’s a great song. I really understand how good a song this is, it was just hard for me to perceive it at the time.
The 20th anniversary edition of Linkin Park’s debut album, Hybrid Theory, sold 17,000 copies in the US in its first week of availability.
Linkin Park hasn’t performed live since October 2017, when the band members hosted a Chester Bennington tribute concert in Los Angeles.
The group has not officially announced if it plans to continue its activities after the death of the singer, who committed suicide at the age of 41.
