Two passenger trains collided in the south-west of the Czech Republic on Wednesday morning, killing two and injuring dozens
The Czech National Police confirmed on Twitter that two people had died at the scene.
Police said the collision took place shortly after 8 am in the village of Milavche.
“Medical care is currently being provided to 31 people whose lives are not in danger, seven people are in critical condition and two have died,” a spokeswoman for the Plzeň Region Rescue Service said.
The collision involved an international high-speed train between Prague and the German city of Munich and a local train. The Munich-Prague high-speed train collides with a regional train between the Czech cities of Pilsen and Domažlice.
Czech Transport Minister Karel Havlicek said the high-speed train had ignored the signal and crashed into a regional train. “The situation is serious,” Havlitch said on his way to the crash site.
In July last year, a collision between two trains in the Czech Republic killed three people and injured dozens.
