In the Czech Republic, the number of recurrent covid infections is increasing, there are thousands of them

Since the beginning of the epidemic, the State Institute of Public Health (SZÚ) has registered 8,156 cases, while 3,465, ie about 42 percent, fall on November this year. In addition, the institute recorded 8,358 cases of possible reinfections, in which people had at least one disease without symptoms.

According to the SZÚ, the incidence of recurrent infections remains relatively low, but given the significant increase in the last two months, it is clear from the institute that even the disease does not provide full protection against further infection. Experts consider recurrent, confirmed, symptomatic covid-19 disease, where at least 60 days have elapsed between the first and second episodes of the disease. Most of the time, however, people became infected again at a greater distance, with a median interval of 260 days.

The data clearly show that the so-called induction of immunity occurs not only after vaccination, but also after illness.

Jan Kynčl, Head of the Department of Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, SZÚ

By the end of November, 2.17 million people in the Czech Republic had proven themselves. “Among them, 8156 confirmed recurrent covid-19 symptomatic diseases were identified, of which 4832 in women and 3324 in men. The age range of people who have undergone covid-19 reinfection is zero to 99 years, with a median of 37 years. The interval between the first and second episodes of the disease ranged from 61 to 624 days, “said Jan Kynčl, Head of the Department of Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, SZÚ.

In the November cases, the median range between the first and second diseases was 326 days. “The data clearly show that the so-called induction of immunity occurs not only after vaccination, but also after illness,” Kynčl added. Therefore, according to experts from the EAA, vaccination is also suitable for those who have undergone covid.

“Data on reinfections confirm the suitability of vaccination against covid-19 even in people who have already proven this infection in the past,” points out Barbora Macková, director of the State Institute of Public Health.
