This time the serious loss concerns the newsagent, well known and loved in the village, in via Garibaldi, Maddalena Amiti. The woman disappeared at 78 and left a huge void in a country that had been fortunate enough to use his precious service for 22 years. The newsagent, which died on Monday after a long hospitalization, a month ago, for contracting the terrible virus, had been hospitalized at the Maggiore hospital in Lodi. Then she was transferred to the San Matteo Polyclinic, in the intensive care unit. But he didn’t make it.
It was February 20, 2020. The day that marked the beginning of the Covid nightmare also in Italy. For the first time the Chinese virus is found on an Italian patient: Mattia Maestri, later renamed patient 1. From there he started an ordeal and hospitalization in intensive care. A battle that Mattia managed to win and that today can, fortunately, tell.
Maddalena was one of the few unvaccinated citizens of Castiglione d’Adda, where – he says Deputy Mayor Stefano Priori at the Adnkronos agency – ” of the 4,040 vaccinable persons, i.e. adults over 12 years without particular pathologies, 82% have already received their first dose and 65% have already completed the entire vaccination course. So these are quite high numbers. ” A coverage that avoided that in early July, when the number of infections rose to equal the peak of the second wave of autumn 2020, deaths also increased: only the unvaccinated newsagent, in fact, died. Two other elderly, infected but unlike Mrs. Maddalena vaccinated, ” they were hospitalized as a precaution, given the age and now they are improving ”, reports the deputy mayor. The other positives of the summer wave are mostly young people. ” Between the end of June and mid-July we got to have too 26-27 people currently positive. A fairly high number, similar to the second wave of autumn 2020, while with the first of February we cannot make comparisons, since there were no tampons ”, says Priori, relieved that “ in the last week the situation is improving: the current positives are about ten, all young and not in worrying conditions ”.
