Vienna (OTS) – The persistently high inflation will determine the political autumn. In August, inflation in Austria was 7.5 percent. The government is trying to take countermeasures and cushion the consequences for people’s lives. For the opposition, these measures are not sufficient or are simply the wrong recipes. In addition, the economy is deteriorating, also under the influence of the recession in Germany. The first major conflict is emerging in the upcoming collective bargaining negotiations, starting in the metal industry: the union’s demands and the employers’ offer are far apart. Why is inflation in Austria still significantly higher than in other countries in the EURO zone? Which political measures make sense now from the perspective of economic research? What role do wage negotiations play in the fight against inflation and its consequences for people’s lives? And are there winners from inflation as well as losers?
Claudia Reiterer will discuss this on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 10:10 p.m. on ORF 2 in “IM ZENTRUM”.
