Wholesalers at Hong Kong’s Aberdeen Fish Wholesale Market have been suspected of colluding in fixing the wholesale price of seafood products, in breach of the Competition Ordinance. The Competition Commission, together with the Police, the Department of Fisheries and Conservation, the Department of Food and Environmental Hygiene, the Fire Department, the Immigration Department and the Maritime Department, has took joint action at the Aberdeen wholesale fish market. The Competition Commission said it had previously received complaints that some wholesalers on the market were colluding in the wholesale price fixing of seafood products. During the operation, they collected information relating to the case, including questionnaires to more than 30 seafood wholesalers to understand the situation .
522 people arrested in a police operation
Furthermore, the police have specified that in the joint operation yesterday morning, operations code-named “Pigna”, “Campione” and “Impronte” were launched in the area to counter triads, illegal immigrants and undeclared work, and 32 fish were inspected at wholesaler farms, and 552 people were intercepted. A fish wholesaler has been verbally cautioned by the relevant authorities for violating the terms of the lease.
