Precious bones were discovered in early November, this week the Minister of the Environment Varawut Silpa-archa informed about the discovery. “There are only a few subfossils (partial fossil – ed. note.) whales in Asia. And even fewer are in such good condition, “Marcus Chua from the National University of Singapore added to the BBC.

The whole skeleton measures about twelve meters in length, the skull itself about three meters. So far, scientists have managed to remove 80 percent of the bones, including the skull, vertebrae, ribs, fins and shoulder blades, from the ground.

According to scientists, the skeleton could belong to Bryde’s Whale, but only later research will be able to reveal the differences between the then whale and its contemporaries today.

Bones can also provide scientists with other important information about “the paleobiological and geological conditions, sea levels and biological communities of the time.” It will be up to the carbon-carbon dating method to determine exactly what time the skeleton comes from. According to scientists, the results will be known during December.
