A 70-year-old woman was arrested in Haninge, a town south of Stockholm, Sweden, on suspicion of keeping her son indoors for 28 years. According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, the man, who is 41, was found by a relative who 20 years ago had told the authorities that she suspected that the woman was “totally controlling her son’s life”, but did not sue even convinced by the opinion of other family members. According to the newspaper Aftonbladet, the mother had taken her son out of school when he was 12 or 13.
After learning that the mother was in the hospital, the relative tried to enter the house, which was open. He said he found the 41-year-old in a serious dirty condition, speaking confusedly and without most of his teeth.
The prosecutor in charge of the preliminary investigation, Emma Olsson, said the woman, who denied all wrongdoing, was charged with unlawful detention and serious personal injury.
