In Sweden, 26 people have been detained in protest over the burning of the Koran

Police said three people were injured in the warning shots on Sunday. Several cars have also been reported set on fire.

The leader of “Stram Kurs” is Rasmus Paludan, a lawyer and YouTube video blogger, who is planning to run in the upcoming Swedish parliamentary elections in September, but has not yet received the necessary support to run for office, so he has gone on a “tour” in Sweden.

The 40-year-old activist visits communities of many Muslims who want to burn Muslim scriptures – the Qur’an – while Muslims observe Ramdan.

He burned the Koran in Malmö on Saturday, but then a fire broke out at a local school, officials said. Several cars and a bus were set on fire in Malmö during the demonstration.

Stram Kurs rallies have seen clashes between police and Stram Kurs opponents on several occasions in recent days.

At least 12 police officers were injured in the clashes on Thursday and Friday.

In connection with the incidents, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that it had called a Swedish Plenipotentiary in Baghdad and warned that what was happening could exacerbate relations “between Sweden and Muslims in general, both in the Muslim and Arab countries and in Muslim communities in Europe”.

Iran has also summoned a Swedish spokesman to protest the burning of the Koran and condemn the Swedish police for allowing Paludan to burn a Muslim holy book in Linköping.

In 2020, Paludan was sentenced to a month in prison in Denmark on charges of racism. He also plans to burn the Qur’an in other European cities.
