Another earthquake in European basketball? According to a report on the Spanish website “WEBENCESTANDO”, Maccabi Tel Aviv is still one of the teams that opposes the entry of the club from Dubai into the Euroleague, along with Olympiakos and Real Madrid, which, according to the report, is at the head of the move against the developing team in the United Arab Emirates.
At the moment no date has been set for the vote on the inclusion of the group from Dubai, after the one planned for mid-March was postponed. One of the requirements of the Euroleague, that Dubai play in a local league like the other teams and therefore joined the Adriatic League, which confirmed its entry into the league for at least the next three seasons, but in Spain it was revealed that there are quite a few debates between the 13 teams that have an A license in the Euroleague.
The 13 clubs with the license are: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Basconia, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Zlagiris Kovna, Anadolu Efes, Milan, Fenerbahçe, Villerbaan, Bayern Munich, Olympiakos and Panathinaikos. If the vote does not take place in the coming days, the participation of the club from Dubai in the Eurocup last season is in great doubt.
After Maccabi Tel Aviv, Real Madrid and Olympiakos expressed doubt about Dubai, now Fenerbahce and Bayern Munich have joined. The big concern of the teams, according to the report, is the fact that they will be able to sign any player they want and the salary is not what will stop them, which will directly interfere with the competition. On the other hand, by paying Abu Dhabi about 75 million euros for three Purim finals, an offer that has been approved but not made official, along with 69 million dollars to be paid by Dubai to the armored teams, stand against it.
