In Strasbourg, a new feminicide revives the question of inaction in the face of alerts

Yasemin had given no sign of life since December 23. The body of this mother of four children was found last Monday, buried in the forest of Vendenheim. She was 25 years old. Her ex-partner, reported to the police several times, was indicted for murder.

Monday, December 28, relatives of Yasemin still hoped to find her. On a Facebook group dedicated to the disappearance of the mother of four children, several hundred people were getting organized, between field research and calls for testimonies. It had been five days since this inhabitant of the Montagne-Verte district no longer gave any sign of life. Then the terrible news fell in the Latest Alsace News : the body of this 25-year-old woman was found in the Vendenheim forest. Yasemin was the 97e woman to die under the blows of her spouse or her ex-spouse in 2020.

One of Yasemin’s children reported to investigators an argument between her mother and her ex-partner on the evening of Saturday, December 23. Savas O. could not bear to see his ex discussing with another man. According to the autopsy report performed at the Strasbourg legal medicine institute, Yasemin died of suffocation from strangulation, but his body also had several stab wounds. The children, aged 1 to 8, told investigators they saw their father beat and then lock himself with their mother in the bathroom. He came out on his own before taking them to his sister’s house.

In the entourage of the young woman, Savas O. is described as violent and angry. To the newspaper Le Monde, Leyla, Yasemin’s sister reports beatings, a cock in the eye and that the young woman had reported her situation to the national police with handrails and at least one complaint.

“My sister was scared and finally it happened”

“I don’t understand why it didn’t go further,” she said. At the microphone of France Bleu Alsace During a rally held on Wednesday December 30 in front of Yasemin’s home, Leyla adds: “My sister was scared and finally it happened. A hundred people then paid tribute to the young mother.

A second rally was organized on Saturday, January 2 at Place Kléber. More than 300 people attended, including representatives of feminist associations, and to denounce this new disappearance, which also owes to the inability of “patriarchal society” to protect women victims of violence.
