While most major carmakers have announced that they will stop or stop developing new internal combustion engines and switch entirely to electricity in the coming years, BMW has made a surprising announcement that it is still working on new petrol and diesel engines.
One of the company’s bosses said in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport that the company will keep the internal combustion engines for several more years. He also said that BMW engineers were working on a new generation of six- and eight-cylinder engines.
The new engines will reduce emissions to cope with the tightening measures, but at the same time increase their power, and this will be achieved with “something really new in the engine head”. BMW does not intend to “force” its customers to electric cars and will leave the choice of what to drive to themselves.
