He was world champion. Now he got handle pot number five! More is hardly possible. Even Cristiano Ronaldo – along with Lionel Messi the contender for the title “Goat” (Greatest of all times) – has the same number of titles in the premier classes. Toni Kroos makes history with Real Madrid. This is not really appreciated in this country. During an interview with ZDF reporter Nils Kaben, the midfielder’s collar burst. He broke off the conversation.
The appreciation in Germany does not fly to Kroos. Maybe that’s why he was so annoyed when ZDF reporter Nils Kaben asked twice after the game why the team was in such distress. “You had 90 minutes to think about sensible questions, then you ask me two shitty questions – that’s crazy,” Kroos exclaimed and evaporated.
The native of Greifswald could hardly calm down. When he passed the ZDF camera again, one could say “Really bad. Really bad, really.” When Kroos was already on his way to the next interview, ZDF sounded from the background: “You first ask three negative questions. Then you already know that you come from Germany.”
Germany likes to criticize its greats
It seems to be a typical German trait that the big ones are always criticized. Boris Becker, who is currently serving a prison sentence in London for bankruptcy fraud, was recently able to find out. In the case of Franz Beckenbauer, the (media) public did not rest until the light figure was switched off in the course of the summer fairy tale affair. Kroos himself is more respected than loved by the crowd. Even before the final it was clear that the sympathies would belong to Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp, but not to the royals around Kroos.
It took a while for Kroos to calm down. Only when he held up five fingers and then the pot with a handle in the air did the anger subside. “Winning that thing five times is unbelievable,” said Real’s passing machine proudly. By the way, that was only in front of the microphones of the streaming service DAZN, which is also broadcasting!
Kroos is respected, hardly loved
“Before the season, I didn’t expect that we could make it to the final. Let alone win it,” said Kroos after the 1-0 win against Liverpool. Although Jürgen Klopp’s team was the better team, the victory went to the ice-cold Madrilenians.
The 32-year-old has had a regular place at Real for eight years, but in Germany he can’t shake off the image of “cross pass Toni”. A year ago, Uli Hoeneß even declared that Kroos “no longer fits into football”. And not a few made the embarrassing failure of the preliminary round at the World Cup in Russia four years ago personally. How wrong Hoeneß is proved by Kroos on Saturday with a calm performance. “Real Madrid are immortal. This team has legendary status,” wrote the Marca newspaper.
