The Hubble Telescope has captured an image of the impressive space object known as J025157.5 + 600606.
–
Although the photo resembles an eerie still from a ghost movie, it captures the birthplace of new stars. J025157.5 + 600606 belongs to a special class of star forming cells known as free floating evaporating gas globules (frEGG).
–
When a massive new star begins to shine, it is still in the midst of the cold molecular cloud from which it formed. Radiation from the star ionizes the hydrogen in the cloud and creates a large, hot bubble of ionized gas.
–
Surprisingly, inside this bubble around the nearest massive star are dark, compact globules of dust and gas, astronomers say. Some of these globules give rise to low-mass stars.
–
The photo shows the border between cold, dusty globules and a bubble of hot gas. These are beautiful areas that glow purple.
