In September 2020, 110.2 thousand people were served in Latvian tourist accommodation. In Latvia, the active tourism season traditionally ends in September, thus a decrease in the number of guests served, compared to the first two months of the 3rd quarter of 2020 – July and August.

In the 3rd quarter of this year, 709.3 thousand foreign and local guests were served in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 31.3% less than in the 3rd quarter of the previous year. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of nights spent by guests decreased by 34.9% and was 1.3 million. The average length of stay was 1.8 nights.

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, 358 thousand foreign guests were served, which is by 49.2% less than in the 3rd quarter of the previous year, as well as the number of nights spent by foreign guests decreased by 51% and was 679.5 thousand. night. Most guests were received from Lithuania (121.4 thousand), Estonia (89.2 thousand), Finland (53.9 thousand), Germany (29.8 thousand) and Poland (7.3 thousand).

CSB data show that 60.7% or 217.4 thousand of foreign visitors were from neighboring countries – Lithuania (33.9%), Estonia (24.9%), Russia (1.7%) and Belarus (0.2 %).

In the first nine months of 2020, 1.3 million guests were accommodated in Latvian tourist accommodation – by 43.7% less than in the first nine months of 2019, of which 675.2 thousand from abroad – a decrease of 56.6% compared to the corresponding period last year.

In the 3rd quarter of this year, most foreign guests were received in Riga – 56%, Jurmala – 13.6%, Ventspils – 5.1%, Liepaja – 4.8%, Sigulda region – 2.6%, Salacgriva region – 2.0%, In Engure region – 1.4%, in Roja region – 1.1% and in Daugavpils – 1%.

Restrictions on travel abroad have facilitated the travel of Latvians around Latvia. In the 3 rd quarter of 2020, 351.3 thousand Latvians were served in tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 7.6% more than in the 3 rd quarter of 2019, the number of nights spent by them has increased by 2.3% and was 612.2 thousand.

The most popular accommodation places for Latvian residents were in Riga, where 15.2% of guests stayed, in Jurmala – 7.6%, in Liepaja – 7.2%, in Ventspils – 4.7%, in Daugavpils – 4%, in Salacgriva region – 3.3%, In Daugavpils region – 3%, in Sigulda region – 2.9%, in Kuldīga region – 2.8%, in Engure region – 2.7% and in Saulkrasti region – 2.6%.
