In September, soil moisture will increase – first in the east, then in the Polish regions of the country – 2024-09-02 07:10:41

No frost expected

Monthly agrometeorological forecast

Dragomir Atanasov, agrometeorologist at NIMH

During most of the days of the first ten days of September, the agrometeorological conditions will be determined by temperatures above the climatic norms, which will accelerate the progress of the last phases of the development of the late field crops. In late hybrid corn, waxy and full maturity will be observed. During the first half of the period in the eastern regions, a greater probability of precipitation and improvement of soil moisture in the upper layers and of the conditions for carrying out pre-sowing tillage are predicted. In the rest of the Polish regions of the country, the conditions will allow the release of the areas from the mature crops of sunflower and corn.

During the second ten days of the month, a change in agrometeorological conditions is expected. Relatively low temperatures and precipitation conditions are forecast for most days of the period in more places in the Polish regions. The expected rainfall, after the deepening drought at the end of the summer, will improve the condition of the upper soil layers and the conditions for better performance of the pre-sowing treatments and the sowing of winter rapeseed. The optimal agrotechnical terms for sowing rape are until the end of the second ten days of September.

The predicted rainfall during the second and first half of the third ten-day period will increase the risk of the development of fungal pathogens on the ripening fruit and vegetable crop: gray rot on grapes, late brown rot on the fruits of late varieties of fruit trees, mani on vegetable crops. In September, in the vegetable crops of the late Polish production, plant protection spraying against the caterpillars of the third generation of the cotton nightshade, which cause damage and reduce the quality of the vegetable crop, should not be underestimated.

In the second half of the third ten-day period, dry weather and suitable conditions for harvesting the ripe grape harvest are expected.

In September, critical minimum temperatures are not forecast and conditions will allow the formation of additional production from the late vegetable crops.
