In Seine-Saint-Denis, wearing a mask is back for the New Year weekend

Faced with the surge of the Omicron variant, the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis announced this Thursday morning new restrictions for the New Year festivities, this Friday evening, as several Ile-de-France departments have already done.

In a message posted on Twitter, she indicates the return of the obligation to wear a mask on public roads for all people aged 11 and over, as well as in all places open to the public, without specifying the exact date of this measure will come into force. According to a message posted by the City of Saint-Denis, this restriction will be effective from Friday until January 20.

Most of the deprivations relate first and foremost to the consumption of alcohol. “Gatherings of people, in particular those festive and unauthorized, giving rise to the consumption of alcoholic beverages on the public highway” will be prohibited in Seine-Saint-Denis from 6 p.m. this Friday and until 6 a.m. Monday, January 3 , specify the services of the State in a press release.

During this same period of time, “fun and recreational dance activities on the public highway and in all establishments open to the public” will also be prohibited. There is therefore no question of dancing in the bars for the New Year. These will have to close at 2 a.m. all weekend. The consumption of alcohol on the public highway will also be prohibited from 6 p.m. this Friday until 8 a.m. Monday January 3. The take-out sale of alcoholic beverages will also be prohibited from Friday 8 p.m. until Monday 8 a.m.

“The epidemic situation in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis has deteriorated significantly in recent weeks with very intense viral circulation, indicates the prefecture. The incidence rate is 1,084.3 per 100,000 inhabitants, a positivity rate of 11.9% and the spread of the Omicron variant is extremely rapid. Mixing should therefore be limited as much as possible in order to avoid contamination. but also the multiplication of hospital admissions. »

The police will be “massively” deployed in the department this weekend to monitor compliance with the restrictions, it is announced.
