Fans are asking if Indian football will be better. The question of why Indian football is not getting enough growth in India, where the Champions League, World Cup and European national leagues are taking place, has been raised for ages. Another example of that is this year’s Santosh Trophy tournament. Empty galleries witnessed this year’s much-hyped tournament in Saudi Arabia. Robin Yadav, the best player in the tournament held abroad, got only 10000. Even friendly leagues run by expatriate organizations have a higher consent amount than this. Even with free admission for the final, the crowd at the stadium was pathetic. Even if the words of the federation president that Kerala and Bengal did not qualify are the reason for the lack of spectators, are these the only problems of Indian football? The Santhosh Trophy held in Manjeri last year was a huge success. Even as it was the fasting season, it was possible to see an unprecedented rush of people. Never forget the fact that the spectators who had tickets for the final match which was supposed to be held at night but could not enter due to crowd protested.

In the Santhosh Trophy held in Manjeri, the best player and goalkeeper were given 25000 rupees. That in itself is very low. The All India Football Federation is unable to pay even half of that this year. Last year, the team that won the Santosh Trophy was given five lakh rupees. A team consists of around 25 people including players, coaches and other staff. Indian football is growing like a stick. There are plenty of players in India who take off their boots and leave the field because they don’t get a decent wage. It is doubtful how many people will take up football as a profession if the future is uncertain.
