The 16th event of the cycle will be held on Wednesday 10 April at 8.30 pm at the “Le Ostinate al Duomo” wine shop, in via Duomo 39 in Salerno “A wine/a book” which it will have as its title “4 Nobel Prizes for 4 female poets”.
In the long history of the awarding of Nobel Prizes, which began way back in 1901, only in four cases has the prestigious Nobel Prize for Literature been awarded to a woman for poetry.
In 1945 a Gabriela Mistral, Chilean poet, the only woman to win a Nobel Prize in South America. Prize awarded “for her lyrics, inspired by strong emotions, which made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world”
In 1966 a Nelly Sachs, German poet, naturalized Swedish. Prize awarded “for his exceptional lyrical and dramatic writing”
In 1996 a Wislawa Szymborska, Polish poet, well known also by Italian readers. Prize awarded “for poetry that with ironic precision allows the historical and biological context to come to light in fragments of human reality”
In 2020 a Louise luck, American. Prize awarded “for his unmistakable poetic voice which with austere beauty makes individual existence universal”
The evening will be dedicated to these four extraordinary women. We will talk about their lives and, above all, their works, with the reading and comments of the most representative poems for each author.
