In Saint-Denis, an anti-assembly decree so that the city regains “a form of public tranquility”

The mayor (PS) of Saint-Denis, Mathieu Hanotin, issued an order to prohibit any prolonged gathering from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. on rue Gabriel Péri between rue de la République and Place de la Résistance.

“Following repeated nuisances on rue Gabriel Péri, I have decided to issue an order to prohibit prolonged gatherings and abusive occupations of public space between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the section between rue de la République and the Place de la Resistance”says Mathieu Hanotin on his Facebook page.

The mayor of the third largest city in the region hopes that the municipality “find a form of public tranquility” and said aim for “a few people who do not respect the basic rules of community life”.

According to a local resident, Nathalie, who has already had several petitions signed to warn about the situation in rue Gabriel Péri, “The situation is very complicated, there are a lot of nuisances”.

She describes a section of street where “people are squatting in front of the KFC, drinking, throwing their rubbish with harassment when we pass. use sidewalks.

Natalie greets “a good approach, a good initiative” and hopes to see his neighborhood regain some of its calm.

However, the municipal police, in charge of enforcing this decree, will not be able to carry out arrests but just draw up reports. The fine is 35 euros and the order valid until December 31, 2021. A well-informed source indicates that it could be extended to other streets in the district.
