A man at the Russian opposition coalition office in Siberia has diluted a bottle with a chemical reagent, Olga Guseva, a member of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the office of the opposition association Novosibirsk 2020 in Novosibirsk, where about 50 people had gathered for the meeting at that time.
The chemical hit two people taken to hospital for tests, Guseva discovered on Twitter.
In the regional elections scheduled for September 13, the coalition will compete with the ruling party and the Communists.
Ivan Zhdanov, director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, said that a smelly substance had spilled from the bottle, filling the room with a bad smell. He confirmed that two people had been taken to hospital.
The opposition media MBKh reports that the police have identified the substance as an antiseptic used in veterinary medicine and has a strong, unpleasant odor.
Judging by the video from the surveillance camera, the attacker was a man in a hooded jacket. He has not yet been identified.
