In Russia, the number of Covid-19 victims exceeded 1,000 per day for the first time

In Russia last day, 1,002 people died from Covid-19, the highest number of victims in 24 hours since the pandemic began.

The number of newly detected infections per day has reached 33,208, according to official data published on Saturday.

Both of these indicators exceed all previously registered for the third day in a row.

A total of 7,958,384 cases of infection have been confirmed in Russia and 222,315 people have died from Covid-19, although it is assumed that the true figures are much higher than officially published.

Vaccination rates in the country are still very low, with 31% of the country’s population so far fully vaccinated against the new coronavir, and the Kremlin has declined the situation unacceptable, while refraining from tightening restrictions on Covid-19 on the pretext that “the economy must continue to operate.”

In several regions, however, the introduction of QR codes confirming immunization to visit public places has been introduced, and the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko has acknowledged that the spread of the disease can be explained by “population behavior and low vaccination rates”.

The authorities also claim that the Russian health care system is not overburdened and is still able to cope.

According to several opinion polls, more than half of the country’s population does not plan to get vaccinated against Covid-19, although there have been no problems with the availability of vaccines developed in Russia in recent months.
