Russian sport is rapidly degrading against the backdrop of the international isolation into which the Russian Federation is sliding. The youth biathlon tournament in Izhevsk had to take place in a truncated format due to the lack of cartridges.

Shooting lines are a very important part of biathlon competition. However, the Izhevsk athletes had to abandon them. Tournament organizers were unable to purchase ammo for this.
“We didn’t have time to buy the cartridges due to certain procedures. Buying ammunition is not an easy process. Deadlines are already pressed“, – Ivan Cherezov, head of the Udmurt Biathlon Federation, explained the incident.
He also made it clear that the behavior of truncated format competitions without footage would not be an issue.
“There is nothing wrong with that“, – convinced Cherezov.
Note that Russian sport today is going through one of its most difficult times. Due to the Kremlin’s aggressive policy, which sparked a war against Ukraine, and the doping scandal, almost all Russian federations were excluded from international competition.
This also applies to biathlon. The Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) unanimously suspended the activities of athletes from Russia and Belarus in March 2022, in September this decision was extended.
