The 20GB GeForce RTX 3080 has been talked about since last fall. Mentions of a card with such a configuration appeared at the time of the release of the generation Ampere, but due to high demand due to mining, the release of innovated models was postponed. Meanwhile, there have been reports that the new model will have the bus width and memory capacity configuration, leaving it at 12 GB + 384bit instead of the more expensive 20 GB + 320bit. But in the end, this configuration also exists:
So far, there have been reports of three Gigabyte cards fitted with 20GB of memory on a 320-bit bus: the Aorus Xtreme model, the Aorus Master, and finally the Gaming OC captured in the image.
Despite the name “Gaming OC”, you won’t play much on the card. The drivers from Nvidia do not recognize the card and the Gigabyte website does not recognize this model, so it does not offer drivers for it either. Even more interesting is that Gigabyte itself denies the existence of a card that can be purchased and that the company produces. He says he doesn’t make such a card.
The reason for this withdrawal can be simple. The card is suitable for mining – it is not equipped with a limiter and reaches 98 MH / s. This makes it clear to which group of users the product is targeted and why it can be sold even without game controllers that are not needed for mining.
YouTuber КОЛЯ МАЙНЕР / Kolja Miner, who presented the card in a nine-minute video, tested the performance in the extraction of various cryptocurrencies, although it may have reached slightly lower values due to cutting a percentage of the performance due to video recording. The card costs 225 thousand rubles in Russia, which corresponds to about three thousand dollars and 66 thousand crowns. Russian users are arguing whether it is advantageous or not – the disadvantage is (if and until drivers appear) the limited possibility of resale in the event of the end of profitability of mining. Otherwise, mostly those who consider it disadvantageous argue the assumption of breaking mining protection on existing models (which would be more advantageous only in such a case) or the prices of existing models, which, however, do not apply to ordinary Russian customers, but only to miners established as large customers.
In any case, it seems that the preparations of GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 20GB (before the final decision on the 12GB version) have progressed to such a state that a batch of cards was created and now the manufacturer (although he denies it) is trying to get rid of it as a mining product.
