Rosstat, released on Friday night, shows a much gloomier picture of the pandemic in Russia than government figures show that 23,349 people died of Covid-19 in July. Only deaths with Covid-19 as the leading cause of death at autopsy are included in government figures.

Rosstat further defines the death of Covid-19 and, according to official data, 50,421 people died of coronavirus disease in Russia in July.
In addition, according to Rosstat, more than 350,000 people died in Covid-19 during the pandemic in Russia, while government figures show that the death toll is just over 180,000.
There is great skepticism about vaccination in Russian society. 55% of the population in Russia do not plan to be vaccinated, according to a survey published this month by Russia’s largest independent sociological research company Levada Center.
