With the rapid spread of the so-called Indian or delta variant of the coronavirus in the country, the number of infections registered in Russia since the beginning of the pandemic reached 5,833,175, which is the fifth highest number in the world.

Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 casualties in the country has reached 144,492, the highest official figure in Europe, although the authorities are accused of trying to reduce statistics on the number of deaths in the pandemic.
Rosstat, which uses a broader definition to determine Covid-19-related deaths, reported at the end of April that the number of victims of the pandemic had reached 270,000.
