Monday morning, a few hours after North Korea had fired several missiles, the United States and South Korea fired eight ATACMS missiles. One such missile was fired by the US side and seven by South Korea.

This is the second such response from both Allies in two weeks. A similar step was taken last week after Pyongyang fired several rockets immediately after US President Joe Biden’s visit to the region.

South Korea’s President Jon Sukjol has said his government will respond strongly to any provocation from its northern neighbor. “We will make sure that there are no gaps in the protection of our lives and property,” he said.

During the administration of the former President of South Korea, Moon Jane, such retaliation against North Korea’s actions was rare. Sukjol, on the other hand, has promised to pursue a tougher policy against Kim Chenun.
