From 8 o’clock in the morning, the La Poterie park-and-ride was often full. Work was carried out for months to enlarge and secure the place, at the foot of the Rennes metro. A three-storey car park and 150 additional spaces have emerged, but the work will continue.
The users of the La Poterie park in Rennes have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Suzy comes to park her car there. “I often had difficulty finding a place. I had to park my car more than two kilometers away and then walk to the metro.” Others, like Marie-Christine, did not hesitate to park in the drop-off car park, right next door.
At the foot of the metro, bus, bicycle, carpooling, all types of transport meet in the same place. Architects and elected officials reflected on a solution to secure the place explains Matthieu Theurier vice-president of Rennes Métropole in charge of mobility and transport. “There will be only one entrance, located rue de Vern. The objective is to avoid conflicts of use.”
Work to expand the parking lot
In a few weeks, the site will restart. “The current car park will be closed, adds Matthieu Theurier. We are going to redo pathways, install charging stations for electric vehicles and install photovoltaic panels in the shade. This structure will support the panels, they will be high enough to be able to park your car underneath “. The electricity produced will be used to power city buses. Rennes Métropole wants to replace thermal buses by 2030 with electric vehicles and natural gas.
These new works will allow the creation of 100 additional places. The La Poterie park-and-ride will increase from 500 to 750 parking spaces.
