As if the floods were not enough, the work of undermining nutria and other badgers would have done its work near a dike that threatened to give way on the Port-Sainte-Marie side where a preventive evacuation of 80 residents took place yesterday after -midday.
It was rough yesterday afternoon near Port-Sainte-Marie where the road services of the Lot-et-Garonne departmental council have set up a preventive dam on the departmental road 813. This dam should remain in place until the total recession of the Garonne.
At the same time, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS47) and the Port-Sainte-Marie town hall were organizing a preventive evacuation plan for 80 people.
Weakened dike
“The latter will be offered to be directed to the Saint-Clair multipurpose room or to go to their families”, we were confirmed at the level of the crisis PC of the prefecture of Lot-et-Garonne which supervised operations.
The reason for all this fuss is simple. Following their reconnaissance trips, firefighters would have noted a risk of breakage of the dike between Aiguillon and Port-Sainte-Marie, with the risk of submersion of the RD813 and nearby houses.
The funniest thing, if we can say so, in this story, is that the dike would not have been weakened only by the flood of the Garonne but also by the undermining carried out on this dike by nutria and badgers, like seems to accredit the presence of many terriers on the spot.
