the Bras d’Or park was unveiled on Saturday, November 20, 2021, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 32nd edition of the tree fair by the mayor Yves Deshayes, accompanied in particular by elected officials, Christophe Lecavelier, head of the park and garden service of Pont-l’Evêque (Calvados) from very young planters.
The huge panel details it: no less than 3,600 trees, divided into eleven varieties ranging from hornbeam to beech through birch, walnut and cherry, were planted over an area of two hectares.
Helped by children
With its eleven men, the Parks and Gardens team would not have met the challenge launched between November 2020 and February 2021 without the enthusiastic support of 350 children, from 14 nursery and primary classes of public and private Pontepiscopian schools and adolescents from the Lucienne Vasnier Medico-Educational Institute
A vast project carried out in sometimes very muddy conditions which seemed to delight the little ones. “You can walk in the park, there is a winding path”, recalled Christophe Lecavelier, while various arrangements – benches, apparatus, games, beehives – should over time complete the country walk.
