This is why the new species is so good: By feeding the Pokémon in the arenas, you can get XL Candy from particular monsters, which is otherwise very rare.
Until now, Candy has only been available from hatching and catching Pokémon. But monsters like Milza or Kapuno are rarely caught or trapped. So the possibility of many XL candies is minimal. Now you can at least get some of the XL candy for such Pokémon.
