A smell of smoke, or disturbing smoke … this is what the inhabitants of some departments of New Aquitaine were able to notice this Tuesday morning when they awoke.
It is the smoke of the fire in Saumos, Gironde, which rises this Tuesday with the south wind. They could be heard as far as Charente, Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres, but also in Vendée or Haute-Vienne, as many Internet users have reported on social networks.
Faced with these concerns, the emergency services and the prefecture wanted to reassure the inhabitants, inviting them not to clutter the telephone lines of the firefighters.
This Tuesday the fire is still ongoing in the town of Saumos, near Lacanau, it has already devastated 1,300 hectares and caused the evacuation of 540 inhabitants.
