In Paris, the garbage collectors’ strike can be seen but not yet felt

On the third day of this renewable strike, garbage collection is disrupted in several cities such as Nantes, Vallauris but also Paris or in certain districts, the trash cans are starting to pile up. Heavily swollen bags of rubbish are piling up, the green bins are overflowing with rubbish.

At this stage, this strike is only seen and not yet felt. “Luckily it’s not too hot,” says a resident of the 16th arrondissement. “It’s still sad in some areas of Paris. Animals and from ratsthere are already many in Paris. That’s not going to fix the situation.”

A disgusted look at the snack of pigeons on the sidewalk, Richard struggles to understand this garbage collectors’ strike. “I accept the right to strike, but on that, I would like a minimum service, that they only spend the two days. It’s horrible, it’s everywhere. In any case, the buildings are not made to store garbage,” he said.

“We hope it won’t last too long”

A pile of waste, already at the height of a man, is in front of the restaurant of Pascal, who cannot do otherwise. “There’s no way we’re keeping this inside. So, we store in the street and we hope it won’t last too long. When you are an establishment that makes 150 covers a day, at some point it creates a lot of packaging”, laments the restaurateur. A few more days, and the restaurant will have disappeared in front of a mountain of rubbish.

Contacted by RTL, the town hall explains that “the residual tonnages are today estimated in Paris at 3,700 tons“At present, three SYCTOM incinerators are still subject to blockages, in that of Ivry-sur-Seine, the largest in Europe. These blockages impact the entire data collection. In the 15th arrondissement, no dumpster came out “due to the blockage of the garage of Pizzorno”, the private company which takes care of the collection.
