Games to get back on track? Opened at the end of 2022 in the shadow of the Montparnasse Tower, the struggling Ateliers Gaité have announced the opening this Saturday, September 7, 2024 of a huge space dedicated to leisure activities covering 1,680 m².
Bowling, laser game, jeux d’arcade…
This new XXL space will host a bowling alley, a themed laser game, an arcade games area, a bar with regular concerts and showcases. “The goal is to make the Ateliers Gaîté a real center of leisure and conviviality in the heart of the capital through a unique place that reinvents the world of urban entertainment!”, the center indicates in a press release.
Leisure activities were already present at the Gaité Workshops with Illucity (virtual reality), Time Tripper (escape game) and Food Society which programs DJ sets, roller parties, entertainment for children, etc.
Several businesses have closed their doors
“In shopping centres, cultural and leisure offerings are all the rage,” the centre explains. “These are now real places to live that offer their visitors fun and entertaining experiences.”
A solution for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield to the difficulties encountered so far? This project, which took the place of an old shopping center, and required an investment of 500 million euros, is struggling to attract customers. Several stores have closed their doors.

The strategy therefore seems to have evolved: “with the inauguration of this new leisure space of more than 1600 m2, we affirm our desire to position Les Ateliers Gaîté as a real leisure and sharing destination for the whole family, in the heart of Paris. From bowling to laser game to an escape game room, we are diversifying the offer of our shopping center through the opening of Smile World in order to allow our visitors to live a complete experience of entertainment and relaxation! “explains François de Roquefeuil, the director.
Enough to win the game?
