They spent months collecting the signatures of their comrades so that they could file a request and organize a vote on the creation of a union. In Staten Island, it is one of the largest sites ofAmazon which is at the heart of the news.
Connor Spence is one of the initiators of this workers’ movement. He denounces the increasingly difficult conditions imposed on employees to meet the objectives set by Amazon, for an insufficient salary according to him: ” Amazon claims the pay is competitive, but that’s not true. Most of the people here work full time for the richest company in the world and still need a second job to live on. »

To obtain their 2,000 signatures, the organizers set up a tent at the entrance to the warehouses and sent messages to the break rooms to inform the employees. But they accuse Amazon of intimidation, which the American group denies. ” They started posting anti-union information. They try to scare employees to dissuade them from fighting for their rights », assure Connor Spence.
Employees in favor of the creation of a union hope to be able to organize a vote in the coming months. If they are successful, it would be a first for Amazon. On Friday, October 22, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio supported Staten Island employees and called on Amazon to respect their freedom of choice.
New York City is a union town. If workers at JFK8 want to form a union, we stand behind them 100%.
Amazon knows what happens when you mess with New Yorkers — they don’t put up with it. They must not interfere in any union organizing or elections.https://t.co/rEQbMrN9ss
