Los Angeles. The Atlanta Falcons added their third win of the 2024 NFL season this Thursday by beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 36-30, in a game in which quarterback Kirk Cousins scored four touchdowns and completed 509 yards.
Cousins, 36, surpassed Matt Ryan’s record of 503 yards in the 2016 season for the Atlanta Falcons.
The game was decided in overtime with a 45-yard pass from Cousins to KhaDarel Hodge, who took the ball directly to the end zone, leaving a sea of Buccaneers defenders in his path.
“I don’t know what to say right now,” said an emotional Hodge. “I knew I had to answer for my team, I had my chance, they trusted me and I did what I had to do.”
On the other hand, Baker Mayfield had his second best game of the season with three touchdowns, only surpassed by the four in the first week’s game against the Washington Commanders.
Mayfield’s main ally this Thursday was receiver Mike Evans, who scored touchdowns in the first quarter after a two-yard pass and in the second on a 23-yard connection.
After five weeks, the Falcons sit in first place in the NFC South division with a record of three wins and two losses.
