/ world today news/ Both Bulgarians and Roma do not want the foreigners who light sparks
“Everyone in “Orlandovtsi” is armed, how else will you stay alive there?”. This was announced on bTV by Valentin Binchev, who lives in the neighborhood. After two days of excesses, “Standart” checked whether the police extinguished the sparks between Bulgarians and Roma immigrants yesterday at noon in “Orlandovtsi”. Despite the rumors that organized groups will storm the Roma neighborhoods of Sofia.
At noon in “Orlandovtsi” even the pub was empty. There was no one to order the duty fries and beer, the menu that regularly brought together Roma and Bulgarians for a cup each. Apart from the fire engine at the local church, there was no other indication that the neighborhood had been full of police and arrests for hours before. “Last night (i.e. on Monday) there was a riot here with uniformed people. They were wearing helmets and shields. A chicken could not roll over! They were checking the documents of many people. Some took them to the district office because things were not right for them,” he said for “Standart”, a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. The people
they are afraid to speak to journalists
with their names so that there is no retribution. “It’s never quiet here. Constant drifting and high speed. We fear for our children, but we can’t do anything ourselves. The police are protecting them these days, but we don’t know if they deserve such protection after what they’ve done,” they say the women. There is a rumor in the neighborhood that every day until Friday there will be a protest, and on Saturday it will be the most numerous and with the strongest support.
The thesis that the Roma immigrants light the spark in the neighborhood has also been confirmed. People said that they are on good terms with the local residents of Murgavel, they have known each other for years. However, there were many newcomers whose names no one knew and who caused trouble. “They don’t work at all, they go out late at night in groups and start walking around. Those who don’t have registrations here in Sofia, it’s time for them to go. They were given too much freedom, that’s the problem,” says a resident of Orlandovtsi. .
They don’t pay their electricity and they don’t care
because no one hangs them. They are not looking for them anywhere. If I don’t pay for my electricity, they will chase me to a hole, they will sue me,” complained the woman. According to her, if electricity meters are installed, things will change. “There should be control for everyone, you can’t live like this” , she was emphatic.
According to the locals, there is almost no house in the neighborhood that has not become the object of “criminal interest” on the part of the swarthy fellows. “In the evening, we are afraid to shut up. We have children and grandchildren we are worried about,” shared an elderly woman. However, according to Tsvetelin Kanchev, leader of “Euroroma”, the local Roma in “Orlandovtsi” live in peace with the residents of the capital. “Both the gypsies and the Bulgarians want the same thing – for the foreigners to leave. Why should there be tension?” Kanchev asked on bTV. “Let’s go to Orlandovtsi and ask how many gypsies have robbed Bulgarian houses and how many Bulgarians have robbed gypsy houses,” suggested the resident of the neighborhood, Valentin Binchev.
Ministry of Interior: Novi Khan will not catch fire
Novi Inn will not “flame” like “Orlandovtsi”, the police reassured yesterday. “There is no tension,” assured yesterday the spokesperson of the Sofia Police Department, after information appeared that patrols were heading to the village to avoid clashes. Novi Khan was in trouble after a civil patrol caught two cable thieves at the crime scene in the early hours of Monday. The tension between Bulgarians and Roma escalated. And the car of one of the Apaches caught fire. A photo of the car appeared on Facebook – gutted and scrawled with the words “Trash” and “Thieves”. “This is what happens when people take matters into their own hands!” was written under the photo.
There is a group that is clearly looking for provocations
Senior Commissioner Mladen Marinov, Director of the SDVR
– Mr. Marinov, what is the profile of those detained last night? Are these people from the neighborhood? About how old are they?
– A group of about 20-25 people appeared, which was clearly looking for provocations, looking for a conflict with the law enforcement agencies. He even made an attempt to storm part of the Roma houses again, as a result of which the individuals were detained.
– Are these people from “Orlandovtsi” or from other neighborhoods of the capital, at least according to address registrations, what you can establish?
– The analysis of what we have based on these 34 persons shows that 8 of them have address registrations in the area of ”Orlandovtsi” and “Benkovski”. The rest are not address registered in the area.
– And what is the age limit more or less?
– Relatively young people from 18 to 25 years old.
– What we noticed, knowing the development of the protests in recent years, is, for example, Mrs. Vatashka (head of the Association of Football Supporters – b.r.) was present. Boys from the protest were constantly coming to her. She was instructing them. They joined the protest and, more or less, during these actions, the manifestations of aggressiveness also arose. What is that woman’s role there?
– I would not conclude what exactly the role is, but it makes an impression that where there is tension based on some kind of inter-ethnic tension related to different ethnicities, the lady is also present.
– Are these people known from sports agitations, from riots after sports events, as they are usually organized, or are they known to you from other types of crimes?
– For me, these people are a separate profile that mainly takes part in exactly such events. I wouldn’t associate them with any of the canvassers. Rather, they go to a match, but this is not the main place where they show themselves. In general, the agitators in their form, in which we know them, and the persons who are prominent football fans, I personally did not notice them, and neither did the colleagues who observe these processes.
– That is, can we say that a new profession is emerging, so to speak, something like provocateurs of protests?
– I can’t call it a profession, but always in such events, especially when they arise spontaneously, there is a group that is more emotionally charged than the others and always tries for something different from what is happening there. Now it is a question of ascertaining, of course, and of proving, whether these actions are deliberate, or whether they are caused by emotion.
