The incident occurred on a Sunday evening in her village when the mother of three was sitting by the fire with her children outside their hut to warm up.
The village is located in the buffer zone of the Sanjay Tiger Reserve in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, about 500 kilometers from the state capital Bhopal.
According to a senior forestry official, a leopard jumped out of nowhere and grabbed Kiran’s son; Rahul, in a split second with his jaw before escaping into the forest.
Even though the leopard caught his cub, Kiran remained calm as he locked the other cubs in his hut before heading to the forest where the leopard took Rahul.
Sanjay Tiger Reserve Director YP Singh said Kiran tracked the leopard for almost a kilometer and kept trying to scare the leopard away with a stick.
