The number of new infections continues to go well, according to the weekly figures. Last week, 14,397 new infections were registered with the RIVM. That’s a 30 percent drop from the previous week.
This means that the number of infections in many regions is now ‘worrying’ at risk level, which was last in September. This is not the case in all regions, however. There are still provinces where the risk of ‘severe’ remains.
Group immunity
The number of infections is decreasing in all age groups. The youngest groups do not yet have a high vaccination coverage, but a combination of vaccinations in older adults (who can infect young groups less often), immunity built up through corona infections (young groups have had corona relatively often) and the seasonal effect also ensures that young groups are less likely to become infected. So you already see a picture of what group immunity can achieve.

Vaccinations on steam
The vaccination campaign is now well underway. In January there were 25 injection locations, in March that number grew to 60. There are now 140 injection locations.
The GGD reports that almost 1.5 million appointments have been made at these injection locations. 1,427,050 appointments are scheduled for June 7-13. In total, almost 11 million shots have already been taken. This means that 49 percent, almost half, of the over 18s in the Netherlands have had at least one vaccination.

Dive in hospital figures
The occupation of the nursing wards and the ICs in hospitals is also going well. The numbers show a clear nosedive downwards.
The number of patients admitted to hospital with Covid-19 fell to 380 last week, a decrease of 32 percent. In addition, the number of patients admitted to the ICU also fell by 57 percent to 50 people in that week.

Few patients to hospital
The number of hospital admissions has not been this low since September. For the first time, many regions therefore have a lower risk level: serious.
